Man Accused In Flagstaff Cyclist Death Released From Coconino County Jail

Flagstaff Police Department

Flagstaff police say a California tow truck driver involved in a fatal accident Friday that left one bicyclist dead and several others injured is no longer in custody at the Coconino County jail.

Normand Cloutier was charged with causing a death by a moving violation after running a red light in downtown Flagstaff, colliding with a group of cyclists on an organized ride to promote bike safety. It is a misdemeanor charge in Arizona.

Police say an investigation is ongoing and more charges could be added. The Coconino County and Flagstaff city attorneys will review the case. Twenty-nine-year-old Joanna Wheaton of Flagstaff was killed in the collision.

At least two others remain hospitalized with critical injuries. Multiple fundraisers have been set up to assist the victims and their families. Many local businesses are donating a portion of sales to the effort.
