Flagstaff author George Breed will discuss his new book, The Adventures of Stagger Li.
George Breed has made a lifelong study of human consciousness: its depths and heights, its stories, its personal and collective mythology. His new book The Adventures of Stagger Li is a philosophical, fantastical allegory of the hero's journey.
From the Prologue: "To Stagger Li, life was a lick of honey on a razor’s edge. His heart had been broken many times. He did not fear death or life. That is why mountain lions and wolves and other wild things often walked by his side. Walking the path kept his edge…"
George will give a short talk about the mythology behind this book and answer reader questions. Come join us and consider what Stagger Li's fantastical adventures might have to do with our lives. To request a reasonable accommodation for any type of disability, please call 928-213-2330. Discover the ease and freedom of off-loom weaving! In this engaging, hands-on workshop, instructor Jessica Holton will guide you through a shared pattern while educating about the history and mental health benefits of weaving. All materials will be provided!
After a brief overview of the history of weaving both on and off-loom, Jessica will guide all attendees through the same pattern to get everyone acquainted with this new skill. Each participant will learn how to begin their pattern on a 5-inch by 5-inch piece of wood (without pegs or grooves), using a tapestry needle for the shuttle. Along the way, participants will be introduced to the mental health benefits of weaving.
Jessica Holton is a clinical social worker who began her fiber arts journey in September 2022, when she took a drop-spindle fiber spinning class. She began weaving on a tapestry loom in October 2022, taught herself to knit in December 2022, and attended her first (virtual) off-loom weaving workshop in February 2023. She won Best of Show for an off-loom piece at the 2023 Flagstaff Wool and Fiber Festival, and another piece was displayed at the Coconino Center for the Arts as part of their Form and Fiber: Handmade Textile Art exhibit in 2025.
Cost: $30 Willow Bend members, $35 public. Registration required.
