NASA Looking for Names for Pluto Features

85 years after Pluto was discovered at Lowell  Observatory in Flagstaff, NASA's "New Horizons" spacecraft is getting closer to the dwarf planet. It will be the first probe to explore Pluto, and as Arizona Public Radio's Justin Regan reports, NASA is asking the public to name some of the geological features on the dwarf planet.

New Horizons Begins Observing Pluto

After nine years of interplanetary travel, the New Horizons Spacecraft today begins its first observations of Pluto. It will be the first exploration of its kind of the dwarf planet. As Arizona Public Radio’s Justin Regan reports, the mission has special significance for Flagstaff, where Pluto was discovered.

The Arizona Senate has voted to allow companies to erect lighted billboards along state highways. Billboard companies asked the Legislature to change the law after a recent decision by the Arizona Court of Appeals that bans electronic billboards along freeways. And astronomers are not happy with the bill. 

Astronomers say the billboards threaten the dark skies needed for their work, which they argue is a big industry for Arizona.
