The Coconino County Cooperative Extension Program trains Master Gardener volunteers to provide free science-based horticulture information to our community. This includes information on plant selection, insects, plant diseases, planting, pruning, irrigating, fertilizing, and more. This is a 16-week training. Every morning, a volunteer naturalist leads a guided nature walk informing visitors about the different life zones of Red Rock State Park. The subjects discussed on this walk may include geology, wildlife, history, archeology, and plant life. The naturalists welcome questions during the walk, enhancing the learning experience. The program is included with park entrance fees.

Learning more about the native plants and trees in the local area is a great way to enhance any hike. Our volunteer guides explain how plant life is interconnected with indigenous cultures, pioneer settlers, and people in our contemporary times. This interpretive experience lasts between 1½-2 hours and takes place along easy trails near the Visitor Center. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear for walking on dirt trails.

Meetings are held both in-person and via Zoom and feature presentations by experienced genealogists on a wide range of relevant topics. Open to the public; non-members welcome!

We also partner with the Prescott Public Library and the local Family Search Center to provide in-person as well as Zoom mentoring opportunities to aid in your family research.
