Kindled: The Reitz Studio Legacy Exhibition and Sale
December 12th, 2025– January 23rd, 2026

Kindled: The Reitz Studio Legacy brings together the work of Don Reitz and the artists who worked alongside him as studio assistants during his later years at his Arizona ranch. More than just a celebration of Reitz’s singular voice in American ceramics, this exhibition highlights the deep and lasting impact he had on the lives and practices of the artists who supported his studio. Through shared labor, experimentation, and conversation, these assistants became part of a living lineage—absorbing Reitz’s fearless energy, his love of fire and form, and the raw honesty he brought to the material.

This exhibition features ceramic works by a select group of artists who worked closely with Reitz, alongside pieces from Reitz himself. Each artist contributes not only their work but also a written reflection on their time at the ranch and the ways Reitz’s mentorship shaped their creative path. Together, these works tell a story of legacy—not as imitation, but as ignition: a spark passed from one hand to another, kept alive in new forms, new fires, and new voices.

We invite you to volunteer at Riordan Mansion State Historic Park!

The duplex-style Riordan Mansion remains one of the finest examples of American Arts and Crafts-
style architecture open to the public today. Designed by the architect of the impressive El Tovar Hotel
at the Grand Canyon, Charles Whittlesey, the homes were built in 1904 with indoor plumbing, hot
and cold running water, central heat, and electric lights, reflecting the most modern technology and
design of the time.
Seen by guided tour only, the interiors of the Riordan family homes look essentially as they did in 1904.
The homes showcase original family belongings including fine examples of early Stickley furniture.

Volunteer opportunities available include Front Desk, Interpretive Tours, Grounds and Maintenance services.

Why do we salt icy roads in winter? Join us for a hands-on science demo where kids experiment with ice cubes and salt to uncover the science behind melting ice! Participants will make predictions, test salted vs. unsalted ice, and watch in real time as salt changes the freezing point of water.Along the way, we'll explore how mixtures and solutions work, what freezing point depression means, and how this simple science plays a big role in our everyday world. Students will practice observation, data collection, and critical thinking while discovering the hidden power of salt.This STEAM Lab is designed for kids in grades 2-5 and promotes hands-on discovery, critical thinking, and scientific fun. Local high school student volunteers are available to help with homework packets, studying for tests, reading practice, math fact practice, or similar school assignments that your child brings in.Homework Help is available by appointment on Thursdays in the Youth area. At the WORDS Book Club (We Often Read Delightful Stories) you can join in lively discussions of a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction. Atomic Habits (2018) by James Clear.

Irish Night, a new addition to Charly's legendary musical array, will take place every Thursday, 7-9:30pm in Flagstaff's Weatherford Hotel. It features Wild World Irish Fiddle, a blend of authentic, dreamy melodies, stomping jigs, and reels with world and Latin twists, as traditional fiddler Kate Rose joins forces with masterful multi-genre guitarist Armand Ramirez. Result: an intoxicating fusion and original, deeply rooted musical experience. The icing on the cake: all the dancers out there will love getting down to the fiery sounds, as Kate teaches simple Irish dance moves and configurations to liven your party. There may even be drinking games or drinking dances. Lovers of Ireland and all things Celtic will connect with poetic interludes and stories from Kate's years in County Clare learning among the fiddling farmers. Chair yoga allows you to do yoga regardless of your ability, and will help you build and keep your strength, flexibility and balance.
