Looking for an excuse to hang out with cool people and make some art? Look no further! Come, relax, and participate in group sketching prompts. This is NOT an art class, but beginners are more than welcome!
Extra drawing utensils and paper pads will be provided.

"Photography has become a very diverse art form. It has grown into many specialized genres designed to capture specific subjects, and moods as well as employing many specialized techniques to create art. The Focus on Photography October program will be looking through the lens of the Special Interest Groups of the Yavapai Digital Arts and Photo Club to explore four genres of photography, as well as Printing and Lightroom post-processing techniques used within photographic genres.

The October speakers, all members of the Yavapai Digital Arts & Photo Club, are the leaders of the following YDAPC Special Interest Groups:

Society for a presentation by Marilyn Fredericks

Marilyn, whose Hopi name is Honyesnem (“Sitting Bear Maiden”), shares insights into the traditional Hopi culture. Her many-faceted career as legislator, tribal judge, court interpreter and Registered Nurse has led her to understand how a Hopi woman can thrive while honoring traditional lifeways. No photos or recording of this presentation, please.

Marilyn lives in Bacavi Village, Hopi Homelands, where she was born. She serves as an Arizona Site Steward, monitoring ancestral sites in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff and in the Red Rocks area. Marilyn assists with traditional ceremonies, sharing her knowledge and educating others on Hopi lifeways.

In partnership with Thin Air Magazine, local author, dancer, figure drawing aficionado, and activist, Malia Levison will lead a workshop to help you develop voice in poetry and nonfiction.

IIn honor of the 100-year anniversary of Route 66, NAU Theatre proudly presents Mother Road, Octavio Solis’ modern companion to The Grapes of Wrath. This gripping, heartfelt story follows William Joad and Martín Jodes—unexpected relatives bound by legacy—as they journey from California back to Oklahoma. Filled with humor, humanity, and social urgency, Mother Road reimagines the Joad family’s mythic path for a new generation.

Bird enthusiasts join a naturalist for a guided walk appropriate for beginner and advanced birders. Most year-round birds are found in the riparian area next to Oak Creek or along the field behind the Visitor Center. The Audubon Society has designated Red Rock State Park as part of the Lower Oak Creek Important Birding Area (IBA) because of the many species that live or visit here. Please meet up with the leader on the viewing deck above the visitor center.
