The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Sedona encore of “Eleanor the Great” showing July 3-9 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre.
“Eleanor the Great” features a bravura performance from June Squibb in the title role of the spirited 94-year-old who tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own.
Eleanor Morgenstein has always stayed engaged and connected to the people around her. So, after a devastating loss, she relocates from Florida to New York City to live with her daughter and grandson, hoping to reconnect with her family. Instead, she feels even more adrift and invisible.
One day she unknowingly wanders into a support group where she doesn’t quite belong, only to reveal a story that unwittingly brings her a level of attention she did not intend. Eleanor finds herself caught up in the enlivening consequences as a young journalism student pursues her as a friend and mentor. When things go too far, Eleanor must confront the truth.
In her directorial debut, Scarlett Johansson brings together themes of aging, family, loss and what constitutes deceit, as this story of friendship and history turns into a profound tale of complicated humanity.
“Eleanor the Great” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre July 3-9. Showtimes will be Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, July 3, 4, 5 and 6 at 3:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 7, 8 and 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Sedona premiere of “The Soundman” showing July 3-8 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
Two souls, connected by one frequency.
May 1940. As Europe trembles on the edge of war, two lives intersect within Brussels’ legendary Flagey building — the beating heart of the national radio.
Elza, a young actress making her debut in the world of radio drama, meets Berre, a gifted soundman with an almost magical ear. She is captivated by the spell of storytelling; he finds refuge in the mysterious power of sound. Their encounter ignites a love that dares to exist beyond the rising shadow of their time.
“The Soundman” is a moving love story about passion, imagination, and the pursuit of humanity during dark times. Set against the marvelous world of 1940s Belgian radio, their voices rise above the rumble of approaching war — an echo of hope in a world about to lose its innocence.
“The Soundman” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre July 3-8. Showtimes will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 3, 4 and 5 at 4:00 p.m.; and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 6, 7 and 8 at 7:00 p.m.
Edie Dillon’s recent mixed media sculpture offers thought provoking visual interpretations of the ideas that lead us away from the limiting frame of human exceptionalism: interdependence, reciprocity, and connection between humans and the more than human world.
The growing Rights of Nature movement – which advances nature itself as a body deserving legal rights – has the potential to significantly increase our chances of sustaining all life on the planet. The movement puts into practice our increasingly inclusive and multidimensional understandings of the more than human world – understandings that encompass both deep spiritual traditions and sophisticated scientific discoveries.
